ABSTRACT
Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are now widely applied in academic research. On one hand, AI serves as a powerful auxiliary tool that significantly enhances the efficiency of scientific inquiry; on the other, it introduces ethical challenges that demand urgent attention and resolution within the scholarly community. This paper examines the applications of AI in academic research alongside its associated ethical dilemmas. It first outlines the role of generative AI in writing and education, as well as its applications in medical research; second, it analyzes the resulting issues of algorithmic bias, academic integrity, and privacy risks; third, it proposes corresponding ethical guidelines and adjustments to institutional review mechanisms. The conclusion offers governance strategies for a responsible AI-driven academic ecosystem to ensure the sustainability and fairness of scholarly pursuits.
